About M42 Traffic

M42 Traffic is a free, independent website dedicated to the M42 motorway — bringing together the latest M42 traffic news, reports, roadworks and delays in one clear, easy-to-use place. It’s part of our Traffic News England network, a family of road-specific sites that help drivers check their route before they set off.

Helping M42 drivers

The M42 is 40 miles long. It leaves the M5 near Bromsgrove, runs round the south and east of Birmingham past Redditch, Solihull, the NEC and Birmingham Airport, crosses the M6 and the M6 Toll near Coleshill, and ends beyond Tamworth at Appleby Magna, where it continues as the A42 towards the M1. It is short, but almost every junction on it connects to another major road, which is why a single incident can affect several motorways at once.

Other motorways

The M42 links the M5, the M40, the M6 and the M6 Toll, and hands over to the A42 for the M1 near East Midlands Airport. Our sister sites cover those roads in the same format: M40 Traffic, M5 Traffic, M42 Traffic and M1 Traffic. For other roads in England, see Traffic News England.
